Has anyone only tried installing game then using the instructions for no CD patch ?
May find that the update (1.006 .. I assume this is an official patch) has other code in it and so using this and then the no cd patch may only work as no cd patch could be for an earlier version.
Try just installing game from the CD and using the instructions for no CD patch only ... no other update or patch of any kind
