And no, burning speed is NOT "hardware capped" it is software.

The same principle for when new dvdr media is released and dvd drives will not recognize it or will not burn it at a higher speed which the media is rated for, in that event you need to update the firmware or "hack" the firmware if there are no updates for your drive for that specific media, then reflash your burner/drive.

I know some programs will still burn at higher speed than what you chose, some don't even allow you to choose a lower speed than 8X ect, but nero & clonecd have always burned at what i have set them to on any drive i have ever used, and i have had many many many burners/drives over the years.

I know CdrWin will only allow me to go down to 4X.

My first burner/drive was a cd burner back when 1X cd burners were top of the line, LOL!!!! & have been making backups of PSX games since the first chip was sold so i'm not new
