This patch is the latest off www.gamecopyworld.com and claims that it is working on battle.net. I have tried it and it didn't work.

Is it necessary to install a mod chip or will a boot CD work?

Well, you need to get Discjuggler. If you get discjuggler 3.0, you will have to get a little cdiconv program, because most games are done with discjuggler 2.0.
