I'm stuck! Patch backup on hold! May-Day,May-Day!

I'm trying to back up my RE Survivor disk. My psx has a mod chip. I have cdrwin. Completed cd image file. Now I have to "extract the patch archive to the path of the cd image file." WHAT!! I open a ms-dos prompt and the do WHAT! I've tried a couple of things but I'm going around in circles.
I'm not sure what patching system I should use, or how to use it once I've got it. Is there anyone who could walk me through this?

what sort of patch is it?????

Which patch are you using and which version of RE3 are you trying to backup.

Most patches you dont need to use dos, you would use the PPF-O-Matic patch engine.

It's a protection fix patch US NTSC. After I download it I open it with autoexec. I get a dos page saying autoexec finished. Now what? How do I extract the archive to the path of the image file? Do I do that in the dos prompt? What command do I use if so?
It sounded easy in the instructions from megagames on patching. I know the solution is somewhere right in front of my face. I'm just not getting the whole dos thing. I tried to get the ppf omatic and get the same kind of dos window.

Use the PDX patch and PPF-O-Matic version 2, you will then be able to patch without going into dos.

All you need is at www.megagames.com including the PPF-O-Matic engine and instructions on how to use it.
