Many thanks to sm83

I followed the instruction you posted, and i think i've made my first back-up. I played the game for a short while and everything seems to be ok, the game was crash team racing. Many thanks for your help, and also to the other people who offered me advice. Oldtimer.

Now whats all this about patches and trainers, iso and ftp ??? All double dutch to me!!!!

Oldtimer 24-01-2002 10:28

I have just done croc legend of the gabos. I ran clonyxl before writing to my hd, on clony it said there was libertycrypt protection. So i still used the info you gave me, the game seems to be playing ok. Is it really that easy? Thanks again, Oldtimer.

sm83 24-01-2002 15:00

when no patching is involved yes it is. because clonecd is the only program that makes a 1:1 copy of the original game. Paying special attention to the subchannel data area where the libertycrypt protection lies. when u come upon a game that is protected u will need a program called cdrwin to apply the patch to the game that u are trying to backup.

Once again many many thanks mate. When i come across the patch proplem, i will not hesitate to ask you guys/girls on here. Have plenty of games to back-up, i found a list of games with no protection. So can i just do a copy on clonecd, or do i still have to save to hd first??? Thanks again in advance for your help, Oldtimer.

when backing up an original or burnt copy game follow the same instructions i gave you. this applies to the non protected games.

backitup 24-01-2002 23:59

SM83: this is the settings you posted to read games
"Set Read Speed to 1x
Select Read SubChannel Data from Data Tracks
Select Read SubChannel Data from Audio Tracks
Select Fast Error Skip
Set Read Retry to at least 5
Set Error correction to None
UnSelect Don't report bad sectors
UnSelect Intelligent Bad Sector Scanner"
YOU NEVER SELECT FAST ERROR SKIP as psx games never have errors on if they did have errors its cause the game must be damage in someway so will never have a true copy you should select ABORT ON READ ERROR

backitup, i followed the instructions sm83 gave me, and the games seem to be working ok. But are you saying because i selected fast error skip, that i have not done a perfect back-up ?? Without trying to play the games the whole way through is there any way to tell if i have done a perfect copy using sm83 instructions? As there is a differance of opinion, who is correct?? I don't want to cause any disputes on here, as you guy's are trying to help me. But which is the correct way???? Anybody?? Thanks again, Oldtimer.

Bobster 25-01-2002 05:44

backitup is 100% correct, you need to select 'abort on read error' or u wont get a 1:1 copy m8

sm83 25-01-2002 07:47

my mistake it should say select ABORT ON READ ERROR. Backitup is rite i jus realized i posted the wrong setting.

It's ok mate, i will just re-do the discs Using ABORT ON READ. When you use the clonyxl first, do you just do a copy using the settings clonyxl gives you? Or do you have to sort it out yourself if the game is protected? Thanks again all for your input, Oldtimer.

sm83 25-01-2002 09:27

yes u can use the same settings as before. but u need to patch the games that are protected.

Thanks again mate, and for the patches and how to apply them, there will be a tutorial available somewhere ?

backitup 25-01-2002 09:40

as long as you got a 100% compatible writer with cd clone you DO NOT need to patch games UNLESS it is mod chip protected (you know if its mod chip protected the original game will not play)

Oldtimer 25-01-2002 09:56

So what your saying is, "that if i was to put an original game in, run clonyxl and it showed that it was protected by Securom, laserlok etc etc" that i would'nt have to do anything ?? Just back-up using your original instructions, or the settings that clonyxl give me ? Once again thanks in advance, Oldtimer.

backitup 25-01-2002 10:35

use the settings which i posted on all psx games but NOT on ones which are mod chip protected (the original game will not play in your psx if its mod chip protected) i never use cloney so i can't tell you how it work

sm83 25-01-2002 10:44

if u try to play your original game and a black screen comes up with a red circle and a line through it sayin that your system may be modified then u will know that, that game is mod chip protected. this is when the patching comes into play. Here u will find out more info about patches and patching

and here u'll find good tutorials
