how do i change the data1.hdr file for gta3? gta3 wont install now after i changed the data1.cab file. someone on here told me about a data1.hdr file that needs to be changed as well. any suggestions? anyone?

@Darksoul, thanks i6comp worked a charm!

The non-fixed version of i6comp, as previously stated, will NOT work with newer InstallShield versions, such as those found in GTA3, etc.

The fixed version WILL work most of the time, however, I did find that the fixed version produced some random errors at times, i.e. while trying to pass the cab name value and when trying to access the data2.cab, as well. At least, this was so on my tests.

The version named i6comp02.zip, located HERE did NOT produce the same random errors and worked fine with the GTA3 data*.cab and wrote the data1.hdr files correctly, as well.

Darksoul............i have been using i6comp for years and do not gave me problems until now when CRC check is present.I have never used i6comp 1.03 beta version because it never work properly with me , so i tried the ORIGINAL i6comp program which doesn't have the extra character support, and here are the results....GTA3 and sims on holydays where fixed with this program with no problems but MOHAA failed ( i think the version you have linked is the original i have( same size))by now all of them with CRC check werent fixed..

I never had CRC errors with the fixed i6comp v 1.03b. Don't forget: I am not a developer of i6comp and I am not firm with the IS cab file format. :( I try only to fix bugs (if I have the source code) and write cracks for games. But if I will find a cab file where i6comp is producing CRC errors I will try to find a fix for this problem.

BTW: I really hate GTA3 and I will not buy a game only to test i6comp. I only buy games I want to write a no-CD patch for and if I like the game, too. I will try to help you but this may last a while (or a century :( ).

Why can't I play GTA3 on my XP. all the letters in the menubars are gone and in comparison to the game on PS2, the details aren't that good.

Is there a solution to this problem, or will I have to install a W2K or '98?????

i got a prolbem with this data2.cab piece of shiat too. I copied everything from cd 1 and 2 onto the hardrive and then tried burning these files onto cds. The audio cd (#2) worked fine but when im in the process of burning cd 1 i get this:

Plextor CD-R PX-W1610A
Couldnt perform Fixation
Burn Process Failed at 16x

this occurs during the data2.cab, i just want to know how to fix this. Hopefully there is an easy solution to this i dont want to get into that i6comp thing.

okay darksoul....but i have a question for you. What happens when the .exe file isn't compressed into the .cab file....just indexed in the .hdr file?For example.....Fifa 2002 or Harry potter, serious sam 2 or grandia 2?
i6comp will not locate the specified file into the .cab so it will not work but if you replace the original exe outside the .cab file by a crack..then installshield fails ( CRC check)

Please if you know the answer i will be pleased to know why!

@ jim_boukis: try burning at a slower speed (4x or 8x). I don't think your problem is caused by the data2.cab itself.

i am trying to replace the data cab in gta3
could u tell me what i am doing wrong
right i extract the i6comp .exe in windows command folder and the .dll file in windows system.
then i copy the data1.cab, data1.hdr and data2.cab and i place my cracked .exe in there. Right i open dos and type cd temp (cause this is where my datas are) and i get C:\temp> then i type i6comp 1 data1.cab gta3.exe (enter)
it comes up with a list of commands and options
for example
COMMANDS
1: list files
t: list setup types
c: list components
g: list file groups
e: extract files <specify <cab index!mask> when specifying <disk path>>
x: replace files in cab <same as syntax as 'e'>
d: delete files from cab <specify <cab index!mask>>
a: add files to cab <<cab path> is optional; must specify -g or -f>
OPTIONS
r:extract subdirs/recurse and store subdirs
d: include directories in cab matches
g:<name!index>: specifies File Group to work with
o: suppress supplementary output <start msg, comments, etc.>
f:treat file groups as directories <usefull for GUI, wrappers>
for add, delete and replace only 1 file group may be used at this time

c:\temp>
this is as far as it will let me go could you please tell me what to do next.
the thing is i should find and .exe and a number beside it i have been told.
could you please write me the next couple of steps for me i am trying to replace the gta3 .exe and could u please tell me what i am doing wrong in the first couple of steps. U can post here or email me. (i am in your debt)

hey guys dont worry i figured it out man its pretty easy once u know how. thx to DarkSoul for producing the software and for Morglum007 helping me threw the process of editing cab files. Thx this wouldnt have been possible with out ya. ;)

hey guys when i did the i6comp thing i did it succesful but when i burnt the installation would work i was just wondering what patch u guys placed in.

ive been asking that question for ages, no one will tell me how to make it work!!

No, no and no! I have only written a fix for i6comp! I don't have written i6comp itself! Don't honor me! I made i6comp to work with InstallShield 6.3 cabinet files, nothing else.

No wonder, you should yous the l (the first letter of list) command to list files not the 1 (ONE). Then it works.

BTW: If i6comp says a file is not included in the cab file so the file is not included. So you can't extract, delete and replace it. You should search the file elsewhere. This is not a problem of i6comp!
