Doom 3 Convert to DVD

Maybe wrong site but here goes. I copied all files to dvd (from the 3 CD`s to the same folders that was on the DVD image), then when I went to install game it asks for CD2.
Does anybody know what I need to do so that it defaults to the inserted DVD?

Create a folder called "DOOM3_DVD" on you HDD and copy all files from CD1 to this folder. Now copy all .PK4 files from the Setup/Data/Base Folders from CD2&3 to the setup/data/base folder on to the HDD. Don't copy any other files from CD2 or 3 or you will destroy the autorun!!! Now replace the doom3.exe located in setup/data with the cracked / nocd one. To override the CD request in setup replace the original Doom 3.msi with my patched one.

Now burn the entire contets of the "DOOM3_DVD" to a DVD-R or DVD+R using the Label "DOOM3_DVD" and Nero 5/6.

Have fun!!!

i've got a patch .msi as well, it requires the DVD to be named simply 'DOOM3'

you can do it yourself using a program called MaSaI Editor which is free to download on trial. requires the .NET framework to run so you might need to download that too

simply open up the .msi file in the editor and scroll down to the 'Media' section. click on it to open it, and you'll see a list of disk names. DOOM3_CD1, DOOM3_CD2, DOOM3_CD3, DOOM3_CD1 again like that.

just change all the entries to whatever you want to call your DVD and save the .msi file

thats right highstuff - you're running it from hard drive arent you? it will work from there, but once burned to a DVD, or even from an ISO image, it will ask for disk 2 (and disk 3, but it wont get that far)

yes you guys are right i created a iso image of the doom3 directory and mounted using demon tools it ask for cd2 oh well , i opened the doom3 MSI file with an hex editor changed the DOOM3_1 ,DOOM3_2,DOOM3_3 strings to just DOOM3 i safed and created the iso again (volumelabel the iso DOOM3) and mount it and it now it works flawless that was easy :)

I used xe.exe its a verry small dos based hex edit utility i searched for DOOM3_1 and changed the _1 with the spacebar than it fills those 2 characters with 2 00 bytes. so it won't get any smaller. :)

and about that maffia game , wich file are you trying to edit ? just setup.exe ? the setup.exe most times use some sort of crc checking...

and when does it says "not a valid win32 applicaton" by the hex edit

forget the 'not a valid Win32 application' thing, that was my mistake and its fixed now :)

the file is called MafiaSetup.exe
im using Hex Workshop 4.2, there is no separate entries for the three disks, just one entry that says 'MAFIA_CD_%i' so i guess the %i stands for whichever number of the disk that is being asked for at the time.
i changed this to MAFIA, replacing the last 6 characters (_CD_%i) with spaces.

but now the file does nothing at all when it is run

'MAFIA_CD_%i' probably only stands for the name of the function you should disassemble the thing to get an better overview (you can check data and code hex there if avaible!)

btw I never tryed to disassmble an installer or a setup*exe normally not a good idea!

I have already installed the whole game on my comp, no problem. Everytime i put in the firstcd though, it says insert cd 1. Could someone plese explain to me what the MSI, and hex programs do. I think that may be all i need to do to get it working. - thanks

one word for you norman - crack

the msi editing is for installing, if you read the thread you would see that its necessary because the game looks for DOOM3_1, DOOM3_2, DOOM3_3. if your disks are called something else, you need to change the file to look for the correct name. if you've installed the game, this is not your problem

you say you've installed the game. if you're using originals and it doesnt work i'd say 'hmm thats strange, take it back to the shop'. but im guessing you're using a backup, in which case i should say, 'forget the backup, run it from your original' but to help you run it from your backup i will just say 'crack'

TOOLS NEEDED:

Alcohol 120%
Nero?

Mount the game images using alcohol 120%. Go to mounted drive of CD1 and
select all files and folders CTRL+A then do CTRL+C.

Paste it all in let's say C:\DOOM3\

Now browse to mounted drive of CD2 and go to \Setup\Data\base. Copy all
the .pk4 files from there to C:\DOOM3\Setup\Data\base\. Now do the same
for cd3. Go to your CD3 drive path \Setup\Data\base\ and again copy all
the pk4 files and paste them into C:\DOOM3\Setup\Data\base\.

You should now have the following files in c:\DOOM3\Setup\Data\base\

game00.pk4
pak002.pk4
pak000.pk4
pak001.pk4
pak003.pk4
pak004.pk4

if that's correct unmount the images from alcohol 120%. Go to your
c:\DOOM3\ dir and double click on Launch.exe

Setup should now fireup and everything should go as planed without the
installer asking for addiotinal cd's. Now remember you can also burn all
files from c:\DOOM3\ dir onto a DVD and then make an image out of it or
simply use nero and image recorder to make an iso,nrg or whatever you like

pk4 isn't that the same file format that they use in Quake 3?
Can't mean it's simple zip packed...:eek: Actually, it's the same file format of a .pk3. If you realize, id created the quake 3 engine with the extension pk3 (basically pak3). This being basically the quake4 engine (they will be using it for that), hence why they named these pk4 (pak4). They still can be opened and re-packed with any program that handles zips.

Does this not bother anyone that an 'editor' needs to have the .NET framework?
how would it bother anyone? .MSI files are built using the .NET framework. if you wanted to make your own you will need it. there are tools for creating and editing them in Visual Studio .NET.
so it figures that you'll need the .NET framework to edit them.
its like saying 'does it bother anyone that these flash cartoons need macromedia flash to view them?'

hehe I too made my own dvd file and tried to install before burning the disk, oh well can you please send me those files i need in order to make the dvd version

WHAT IS WRONG WITH ALL YOU PEOPLE?

patched MSI files are now available to download - theres on that removes the OS check, allowing the game to be installed on any OS thats all over the internet, including fileplanet. and at ************* theres the one that you're all looking for - to put the game onto 1 DVD

and it is so simple to edit the MSI file yourself! get the editor and change the names of the disks it looks for. just like that. while you're at it, you can remove the OS check and have the best of both worlds - an ultimate Doom 3 MSI file.

this has been answered and explained several times throughout the thread. tutorials for DIY are here, download locations are here. cant you people read?
after all this explaining we get another reply saying 'please email me the MSI file.' and an email address. and i'm getting PMs asking for it. you can get it or do it for yourself far quicker than it will take me to email it to you, so save us both some time.
also, a lot of people asking seem to be newly registered. you've found this thread and signed up just to ask for the file. read the thread first. the answers are there.

so to sum up - STOP ASKING FOR THE FILE! ITS NOT HARD TO FIND YOURSELF

i think a mod should close this thread as its served its purpose. the file is available. creating it is explained. perhaps i could post a simple tutorial if i get round to making one. or upload my MSI with the combined OS and DVD fix to gamecopyworld or *************
