why does my ps2 v4 nogap does not play dvdr backup games.

It plays everythimg else but no dvd-r, it even plays dvd rip games.

Could be a bad install or your laser is shot. Does your ps2 play dvd movie backups?

i checked all the pin points with a multimeter, all tested ok.
It plays dvd original movies but not the back up

when I boot a dvdr ps2 it says "disc read error"

What brand media you using? Try some Ritek or Verbatim if you havn't already. If those don't work it is time for a new laser or ps2.

Oh, and whilst we're on the subject of lasers, I aren't too happy with mine at the moment - I think we're going to need a replacement. :(

I have no plans to replace the console (partly because it cost me too bloody much, and i'm skint), so would the V1-4 lasers on Kanection fit my V4R? Trust me to get the dodgy inbetween version. Thanks a lot. The link is here. (http://www.kanection.co.uk/product.php/26/12/)

It should work but it wouldn't hurt to ask them to make sure.

You were right it was the laser that is weaking out.
I tried an other player and every thing works fine .
