cant rename bin file to img

I got a new computer w/windows XP and I cant rename my bin file to an img

I don't understand why. I can on an XP machine. Exactly what are you doing?

Go to Explorer, then Tools > Folder Options > View.
Check that "Hide extentions for known file types" is unchecked.
If it is checked and .bin files have been associated with a program, then the .bin will not appear at the end of the filename, and you won't be able to change the .bin to a .img by simply renaming the file.

I know its a far-fetched answer, but it may just be the problem, It's worth checking out anyway.
