Need help with Doom3

Hey there,

I'm new to the forum and was wondering if I could gain some help with a problem I'm having with the Doom3 crack. I downloaded it and copyed it over the orginal, but when I start the game it comes up with two error windows:

error window #1:
window title: error starting program
dialog: the DOOM3.EXE file is linked to missing export KERNEL.32.DLL:GlobalMemoryStatusEx

error window #2:
window title: C:\Program Files\Doom 3\Doom3.exe
dialog: C:\Program Files\Doom 3\Doom3.exe
A device attached to the system is not functioning.

I even tried reformating today thinking that a virus may have wrecked something in the windows folder, but even after reformating I still get the same error. I am running windows 98 SE. I have all the windows updates and directX updates. Could someone please help me out if anyone knows whats wrong.

Thanx in advance.
(Sorry if this is in the wrong forum)

ID put a Windows OS check in there so the game won't run on anything less than Windows 2000. However, someone released a patch (I assume for the cracked EXE) at http://files.cyberfight.ru/archive/d...doom3anyos.rar which will allow the game to run on Windows 98SE and ME.

I have not tested this patch since I don't currently have Doom 3 so I have no idea whether it works or not.

Let me guess, you havent tried to play the game without a no-cd crack.

Hi Harlex,

Don't bother! When you were installing the game, you should've been warned that, even if you will be able to install the game - according to the documentation, for the purpose of OS upgrade or dual OS boot -, you won't be able to play it.

I couldn't believe it either. I'm a big fan of Windows 98 (having Gold Edition installed, not Second Edition) but it seems it is time to have Windows XP installed; whether installed _also_ or _instead_, I leave it up to you - I chose also...

Joe

P.S.: E_J, please, note that the doom3anyos.rar patch allows you to _install_ the game under any Windows, not _play_ it! At least, the documentation says so, haven't actually tried it yet...

Ok, but what happens when you put the original CD (you know, the one you purchased) in the disc drive?

Thanks, Joe. I didn't bother to read the docs for that patch since I don't have the game, and the website on which I saw that patch mentioned said nothing about it being for installation only.

In any case, can't the "KERNEL.32.DLL:GlobalMemoryStatusEx" export be patched around? I know that the Kernell32.dll from Windows XP won't work on Windows 98SE (I have tried before), but it should be possible to patch around this call or to use GLobalMemoryStatus instead since that function is in Kernel32.dll in all Windows OS.
