Silent Hill 2: Component Transfer Error

When installing Silent Hill 2, I receive a component transfer error immediately when trying to put in CD #3 when prompted during the installation. Have also tried copying all CDs to hard drive and installing from there, but still get the same problem. Anyone experiencing this difficulty. Thanks.

Cd1 must be installed from the original disk however the cab files on cd2 and 3 can be installed from your hard drive i also had trouble installing at about 65% it quit on me later discovered it was my cd-rom drive that was on its way out the door.
