You can patch a CloneCD image

Chrono posted something on the PSX Forum which I then tried.
In a nutshell, it appears that if you only have CloneCD and not CDRWin but you want to patch a game, this is what you do subject to some cautions at the end of this post. I used ASA Patcher to patch the game for use with the Jap Utility Disk - could have been any patcher.

1/
Use CloneCD to take the image to the HDD. Let's call it TTT.ccd. This will produce TTT.ccd (which contains cue type info that can be displayed in Notepad.exe) and TTT.img (the file in which we are interested). If you ticked the Read -Subchannel Data boxes (as you should) then TTT.sub will appear if such data was present.

2/
Having taken the CD game to HDD, rename the IMG file to become TTT.BIN (that might not be required by all patchers).

3/
Run your patcher against the BIN File and then rename the BIN file back to IMG.

4/
Burn the now patched IMG file back to CD-R with CloneCD, which will also correctly assemble sub-channel data in if present.

The main reason I can think of doing this if you have CloneCD only and a chipped JAP PS2 that boots with the Utility Disk for which a special patch is needed. You might think of other reasons, like putting in an NTSC/PAL trainer.

So where is the caution? Well, I haven't tested it extensively. I've merely proved that the game works with both DVD Region X boot swap method and Utility Disk boot swap method on my chipped JAP PS2. On the face of it, the CloneCD IMG file is the same as the CDRWin BIN file. I'm not surprised because of the ISO standard.

Still, it's worth knowing.
