Okay, so I'm pretty much a newbie at this but.

I have a standard GC (not modded/chipped/whatever) with AR (and FreeLoader).
I'm hoping to backup my games but my PC dvd burner won't even read the mini-discs. Is it because of some protection on the discs? or some other reason?
(and I don't have all the other stuff that's been talked about in here: broadband adapter and all that. I only have what I mentioned above).

EDIT: Okay, it'll be probably considered pirate talk, but just take it as a theorical question (which it is).
Since I have no current way to backup my current games, would it be possible to download images of the games I already have and burn them on mini-discs?

It's basically like asking a friend to make a backup of my games in my stead.
(If you consider it as pirate talk enough to need removing, please only remove the part after the "EDIT:" part, as it should be the only thing needing modding.)

Gamecubes read discs backwards (from outside to inside) compared to any other console or conventional disc drive, so to do it without the BBA you would have to have a program that took the binary information read off the disc and then make a mirror image of it. To my knowlege no such program exists, and with BBA's readily available it prolly never will.
PM me and i can direct you to some sites if you just want to DL iso's/gcm's of games you own, plus the tools needed to burn them.

Um, NO. This is one of the biggest myths about the GC. If that were true you would not beable to use standard ISO9660 DVD-r with 1.4GB of data on them for use with back-ups.

The reason your PC DVD drive can not read the GC disk is mainly down to the fact that the gamecube disc does not have it's TOC located in the standard location, which is at the start of the disc. Instead it has a barcode their (which is used in copyprotection as well).

If you want to know more about the ins and out of the GC i suggest you read the following forums:

http://www.gcdev.com/phpBB2/

You will learn virtually all you need to know there.
