TO SPOOKY - I think boot cd does work without modchip.
Hi Spooky do you remember me, when we talked about the cd I sent to my cousin but he was getting just the psx logo? Well I sent him this Psx hack that I found on internet which says that it works without modchip, it's a boot cd where you supposed to have a special memory card to work but the txt says it was cracked. Well the Tomb Raider 4 I sent him is working with the boot cd, thanks to your help. What I really want is to have sure that this boot cd work without modchip so I would like to know if there's anyone to check if the psx has a modchip without opening it? I really think that the psx doesn't have a modchip because he bought the psx from his neighbour which is a kid of 13/14 years old so I don't think they put modchip on it. Can you tell if there's a way of check the modchip without opening? Well the tomb raider 4 doesn't work without this boot cd and when you put the the boot cd it says "Memory card not found" so if it is not cracked it was not supposed to work att all, don't you agree? By the way it's a NTSC boot cd so that's why it probably doesn't work for people that live in europe.
Thanks for your help and hope I was the first one to find a working boot cd on the net without modchip although the chances are really small, I know. |

Sorry to P**S on your party but there has been a boot CD on the market know for a couple of months for Ps-1's that will allow you to play Back-ups without the need for a mod-chip, it is available from most places you can buy mod-chips from.
Once again SORRY!! |

Hi Dean I'm still happy. I expressed myself in the wrong way. What I ment is that I hope I found the first boot cd where you can DOWLOAD from the net that works without modchip. All the others boot cd's even the one you said you have to buy it, pay for it and the one I got I got it for free dowloading it from the net and burning it, but thanks for reading the answer, by the way, do you have the answer? And it's not a ps-1, it's a normal psx that my cousin has.
Thanks, hope to get the answer from spooky or someone else soon. |

I dont really know a way of checking to see if it chipped exept opening it up and looking inside, but that shouldn't be 2 hard it is only 6 screws and you should be able to see the extra wiring.

Hi Deano, thanks for the help but the problem is that it's my cousin who own's the psx and he lives in brazil but I live in sweden right now so I can't open and neither does him because he is a 13/14 years old kid but when I'll get there (End of the year probably) I will check the psx although I don't think his father will allow me to do that and neither will him.
Thanks |

Well I cannot speak for my friend Spooky but I do not believe that anyone has a boot cd copyed or downloaded onto cdr media that will boot a PSX backup in a unmodded PSX. A PSX alone CANNOT read a cdr!!

Now that's not true since a psx will not load a backup game since it recognisez that it doesn't have protection and stuff but here we're talking about a boot cd which is no game and the cdr is just a normal cd like each other. If you burn a music cd in a cdr I doubt the psx is not gonna be able to play it.

Hi,
These boot Cds which you can download off the web are so unreliable that it you really cant class them as a true PS1 boot cd, they may boot once or twice but never over and over again like the PS Exchange. I really dont understand why people try to get these to work when you can get a decent boot cd for 20 quid. Just my view on the whole thing Dal |

No 'BOOT' cd downloaded from the net can work.
Just as you must have a modchip for a Playstation to recognise a burnt cd so do you need a modchip for the Playstation to recognise ANY cd downloaded from the net. It is impossible to copy the unique information that sets a real PSX cd apart from a copy. Anybody who thinks otherwise is an idiot. |
