Got a black screen when launching a game? LOOK HERE!
OK, I see that many people are flaming cracks for black screens while the crack is not the issue.
It happens that Windows XP and Windows 2000 have a refresh rate issues. Many of you use refresh rate fixing software that overrides refresh rate values to max that monitor supports. Thing is - there are several Direct3D games that totally depend on DirectX's refresh rate settings, but your software that overrides DirectX's settings - messes up those games when they launch. Want to fix your black screen without having to use sucky 60Hz? READ HERE: 1. Launch your refresh rate fixing sofware 2. UNDO refresh rate fix/forcing- set everyting to default. 3. UNINSTALL THE SUCKER! 4. Restart 5. Go to START>RUN and type in DXDIAG, then press ENTER 6. Choose MORE HELP tab (last one from the left) 7. Press OVERRIDE button, and for OVERRIDE VALUE - put down 100 no matter what your fresh rate is. 100 is the maximum value. If your monitor supports only 75Hz at certain resolutions - it will use 75Hz, and not 100Hz, so do not worry. You can still change your desktop refresh rate by going to into ADVANCED DISPLAY properties, it will not affect your fresh rate in games. Now launch the game that was giving you a black screen! I know that these games do that: Halo Battlefield 1942 Enter the Matrix Temple of Elemental Evil I hope this helped!

Good Stuff, added to the Backup Guides and Tutorials Sticky. I'll delete this message of mine later this week. Just letting you know why I closed your thread.

Very nice. But may I add that I've been using RefreshLock with a geforce 3 for more than a year now ? And that I've never had any problem with games not starting/black screen/whatever ? And that this is tested with battlefield1942, TOEE and lots more ? And that I've never had to change anything if I upgraded my nvidia drivers, it just keeps working ?
I think RefreshLock is the best refresh util out there right now. It's simple, and it works. Just a little tip |
