sorry guys...it seems like ask questions week for me...haha . last night i bought the xbox starter kit thinking i would go live within minutes, but it turns out im having a hard time connecting to xbox live. i go through the connection set up: Cables connected, IP Settings configured, DNS resolved, but the last one says Xbox Live not found. i have a dsl service with a modem built in router, so either my router doesnt like this, or my service provider are not compatible with xbox live. anyone have any thoughts on this.

Its your router. Will will either have to find and open all the ports for XBox Live on the router, or give your XBox Live account an IP address and put that IP addres in the DMZ with the router.

do u more or less can tell how to find and open all the ports for xbox live or give my xbox live account an ip address? to have an open connection using my p2p programs i had to go to my router NAT rule configuration page and plug in some values. so i was wondering if i have to do the same thing with the xbox live.

Well since your XBox is behind your router, it will have a network IP address, and I think you can set it in the XBox Live settings.
Than once you have set the IP address in XBox Live, log in to your router and put that IP address in the DMZ.

Than reboot the XBox and the router and see if XBox Live will do its thing.

huh..funny thing happened...i set all the fields to automatic in my xbox live settings and it worked. the funny thing is that i had done like that b4 and it didnt work. i guess it has a mind of its own.

tell me about quall999. i guess xbox live wants to be the boss of the settings it chooses. pretty typical of microsoft...in being the boss of our electronic world: pc's, onling gaming, etc..haha

i have a little problem now. playing backups on xbox live. i turn on my x2 to load the backup and then i immediately turn it off when the game boots up. i then go to xbox live from the menu and it says can't connect to xbox live, so then it says would u like to troubleshoot ur settings...so i choose yes. it goes back to xboxdash live menu and starts going through all of the checks: cable connected, dns server found, etc. and all of the check points passed. it then goes back to booting up my backup and again i try to go live thinking that the problem has been resolved. and again it says can not connect to xbox live. so i get a little upset. i take my backup out and load mechassault which came with the starter kit. i load the game with the chip turned off. i go to xbox live i immediately and i get signed in without any problems....so what gives? how come i can go live with my originals but not with my backups?

You can't play backups online. Once your kernal was changed, it is left changed until your xbox powers off. I'd hate to say it, but once your banned, it is for good. Unless you replace your xbox's eeprom, with another, but uh, spare eeproms are not exactly common, especially ones being used. Expect to be VERY lucky if your not banned. Expect to be even luckier if you have the 4980+ x2 bios, as it was rescently released with the new xbl disable hack.

ooops... so what should i do quall999? i have slayers v2.5 and that will turn my hdd to the retail hdd and start over from there. do u think that will work?

p.s. so how do u play backups online? or u simply can't?

First, please tell me you have the X2 4980 or 4981 bios.
If so, then the reason you could not connect was because the bios stopped you from connecting.

If you don't, your banned for good. Each xbox has it's own signature (eeprom key). MS bans it, meaning you xbox is banned. Your account is however NOT banned. Anyways, you have to obtain another eeprom key from an xbox you know will not go online. Basically, your switching xbox identities. If MS detects another xbox using the same key constantly at the same time, it will be banned again.

And you can never use backups online, no matter what.

but the thing is that i still play online with my originals though but not with my backups. cause i was playing project gotham racing 2(original) online and mechassualt(original) but i couldnt go live with my xbox backups. does this mean i am still banned?

If the chip is off, then you can go online. If the chip is on and you have the new x2 bios, then you cannot.

You won't know if your banned for about 24 hours. If you can still connect with originals, then your not banned.
