CD-R Won't play on Audio player

I'm very new to this having just created my first audio CD-Rs. Created one which plays on several audio players including my old Technics player, my Car player etc. but will not play on my son's portable Hitachi CD player (the latest player we have in the house having been bought a few weeks ago).

I'm using an external HP 8230E (USB connection) and TDK CD RW700 discs (UK/European).

Are there any tweaks or tips I need to use to create discs which will play on this and all audio players ?

Are there certain disc makes/types I need to use?

Any help will be appreciated.
