Is it possible to play (or modify) Phantasy Star Online so you don't need Xbox Live?

With my mod chip, I can't get PSO. But I just want to play it singleplayer or splitscreen with friends. But I hear you have to have Xbox Live even for this.

Any way to get round this?

The only way i think you can play this is if you have the Project X release which had an option to pick a hacked fake gamertag and use that for playing offline

There is a patch that creates a fake gametag, which allows you to make a character not playable on xbl and without xbox live. It can be found here.

well, to use the patch you need a program like ppf-o-matic, which can be found in the psx utility section of www.consolecopyworld.com. Unfortunately, my xbox is down at the moment (in peices) so I cannot try anything out. So, you are either supposed to patch the iso, or the default.xbe file with it. I am not sure which so you will just have to guess and check with a dvd-rw.

You can play with up to 4 people in multiplayer offline. The patch is for both versions.

Don't suppose if anyone knows about a patch for the PAL version of the game? Don't suppose this one will work for that will it?
