Xbox 2 release date set!

I read an article that says MS CEO Steve Ballmer was quoted in a Japanese newspaper saying the Xbox2 is coming in 2005.

Anybody think there's some truth to it?

That article has already been 'crapped' on... meaning it was a lie. The only vague release date is 'Xbox Next will debut around the same time as the next (Football/Soccer) World Cup'... That means it will be 2006.. around about the same time as 'PS3' and, if Nintendo is to be believed, 'GC2'.

Why ?? - Last i read, sony was outselling x-box 6 to 1.

I would`nt expect another system untill the present ones have reached the sub $99 price point.

i hear M$ loses $100 for every xbox they sell and i heard xbox2 is gonna have a burner anyone know if this is true and if it is are they putting in a dvd burner. if they do put in a dvd burner they are stupid because then it will be super easy to copy games

the only thing that has been released about xbox2 is what they want for the new chip and that ATI is doing the graphics chip not nivida this time around. The only thing slated to even have a dvd burner in it is the PSX, Sony's uber-PS2 coming out in Japan sometime late this year and odds are going global in 2004.

I don't think it will wait until 2006 cause the video game business is about market share and Sony doesn't want to come out with theirs behind MS and vice versa.

Nintendo and Sony both have won console wars just by being first and grabbing up all the people that just can't wait and establishing themselves early. I already read someone at MS said earlier this year that Xbox2 will come out exactly the same time PS3 will.

I don't see how the DVD burner idea works either. This is one of the last battles a company would want to wage with all the big money concerned over copyrights, there isn't much of a need for it in a gaming console, and DVD burners aren't exactly cheap yet.

I believe the hot rodded PS2 will have a cd/rw drive not a dvd if it does have a dvd one with the 120G hd and network card thats a good price the 499$us I seen as an approx price you couldn't by the units alone for that almost they really want to try and wipe out MS

yup, it's a dvd burner and it's not gonna be handled by Sony's Gaming department either, it's going under it's household eletronics devision like their tvs and stereo systems. It's really just an uber re-model and I'm definitely expecting the damned thing to be around 500 bucks but I wouldn't be surprised for it to be going for more either.

That makes absolutely no sense at all. That might be the rumor but why would they put a DVD burner in it? Why would anyone want to buy a $500 console? I guess Xbox will be the last one I ever buy then!

JiveTurkey, the PSX is not going to be marketed as a console or even marketed at Gamers..
Was'nt there a rumour a few months ago about Microsoft releasing a set top box (like the PSX, burner and all)? I believe they were going to call it the Homestation or something like that..
