Gauntlet and Boarders on NTSC system

Is it natural for Gauntlet Legends to have boarders, on a NTSC Dreamcast??? The start of the game, with the logos and title screen is fullscreen, but when you select your character and play the game it has boarders!! Is there a patch to make it full screen??? I have also edited the the hex strings in the cd image to make it self booting, that Megalexxx suggested in a thread in this forum, would this have changed any of the display settings??

I remember gauntlet having borders ingame. Maybe thats the reason Midway put a screen size/overscan change option in the game which removes them but makes it somewhat more blocky.
