Confused about installing modchip
I have disassembled the ps2 and now I have to actually put the chip in. If it matters the board is a schph 30001 v4. Okay, now I'm looking at the board and I have the diagram for where to solder the wires, but where does the modchip actually go? And after I put the modchip in wherever it goes then do I solder the wires to the board and chip? It might seem like a stupid question to some, but to others it's not. So if anyone would like to respond w/out calling me names please do. My son is driving me crazy about when I'll be finished.
I have been on the modchip.com site and they don't tell you exactly what to do after you get the ps2 dissassembled, and that is the info I need. Thanks, kameoqueen p.s. how do I know exactly which modchip I ordered and received? I mean when I got the package it just came in a white manilla envelope with a modchip and 8 wires and some solder. The most reliable modchip on a ver 4 is probably the neo2.2 from my view. However this is a 9 wire chip with a capacitor for some models.
Not sure which mod chip it is u have, maybe some1 else can help you with that, but when you've finished the mod then place some tape around the chip and put it somewhere away from contacts. That should be ok. (God i'm fuked from last night) |

maybe posting a picture of the chip would help others help you. Also where did you order it from? If it's a store online that only has a few chips, then finding out what type it is from deduction should help. Liksang.com also has a huge modchip section w/ pictures, so you can go there and compare your chip to what they have.
Hope I helped. |

neo 2.2 is 8 wires, not 9.
do yourself a favor and use the search function on "neo capacitor", before you try anything.

the neo 2.2 pro is 9 wire if u wanna add the cd-brake function. Pin 3 can be double wired for this. the link for the lik-sang comparison chart is

when the neo 2.2 is installed in mk3 and some early mark 4 machines there was a problem with certain units where when doing the swap the disc would keep spinning when using the ea method. Thus not only making a bitch of a sound but also messin the disc up at the same time.
only useful in mk3 and 4 machines though. |

the place where I got the modchip is modchip.com. on their site you can either get it as a bundle w/ a gameshark, or alone. My son already has the gameshark so I got it seperately. I know Jay_83 said "when you've finished the mod then place some tape around the chip and put it somewhere away from contacts." Where should I put it and what kind of tape is the best? Do I tape it totally surrounding the chip? This is the info I got when I ordered from modchip.com:
Play all your PS2 and PSX Backups. The Modchip.com PS2 ModChip is the World´s Best and Most Reliable PS2 ModChip. The chip comes complete with wires, and solder. Instructions & installation diagrams can be found online. All chips are shipped in anti-static packaging for maximum protection. Game Shark 2 (US Version) or Action Replay 2 (PAL Version) is needed to play PS2 Backups. PSX backups play without any need for either of these. The Modchip.com PS2 ModChip is compatible with every PS2 model. One Chipset includes: 1 PS2 Mod Chip Color Coded Wires Solder So as you can see they don't specify which chip it is. But by me looking on http://www.ps2modchips.com/charts/charts.php it looks like this: I hope the pic comes out. Thanks guys kameoqueen |

looks like a neo2.2 mate.
I use a non static tape on my mods. No better way to explain it exept that its small black tape! Make sure that all the wires coming off the mod chip are soldered well and just simply roll the tape over the mod chip around 2 times. This stops the contacts from touching anyway and killing your board. on a version 4 machine (Just done 1 tonight) when you place the silver cover over the board you will notice that there is a cut out section in the middle. If the wires are long enough place your modchip somewhere in this region. Perfect! Hope this helps |

Jay_83 thanks for your help, I have another question, How difficult is the soldering process. Should I even continue, or just buy another chip that isn't as difficult to install, and if so which one?
Once again thanks, kameoqueen |

I'd double check first that it is 100% the neo 2.2 that you have. Get in contact with the company you bought the chip from. If it is then it is relatively easy (As long as you have soldering experience)
I still stand by my view that the neo 2.2/2.2pro is the best mod chip for the ps2 ver 4 and below. The neo 4 and messia are good chips but can be real ball achers to install (Especially after a night out!) If you want 100% Success rate and don't mind the swap then get a neo 2.2 |
