Lost Planet Extreme Condition & Steam
Hi Everyone
I have something Interesting Happen to me & I am Stunned. Yesterday I bought the Lost Planet Extreme Condition & a few hours later I decided to Install it, so I put the DVD in the Drive & starft Installing... 1st it wants to install Steam, ok so I let it do its thing... it completes successfully then as it go's back to Installing the actual Game a message comes up saying that it cannot install because a steam.dll cannot be found, boy I almost blue a fuse in anger... So I tried heaps of times including formatting & re-installing on fresh Copy of WinXP Install etc... every single time it failed exactly the same message. Wait to you here this: I got my Original CD of Half-Life 2 & Installed Steam from that... then I put in my Lost Planet Extreme Condition DVD in the Drive, I didn't bother Installing Steam from this DVD & started installing from the game Setup installer, well guess what it worked successfully, installed Serial & Activated successfully. Decision Time So now if I want to Install Lost Planet Extreme Condition I have to use my Half-Life 2 CD to Install Steam 1st, so what can I do about this ? I am now Confused. Has anybody got any Solution to this ? I Believe my DVD is Faulty & I rang up the Place where I purchased it & told them so they said to me that it would take a few weeks to get 1 in for me, but thats ok. But what about the Serial I used on my Current DVD ? well I said to the place of Purchase that I would need to keep my Manual as its the Serial I used, they said yea sure we can do that, so I am guessing that they will just keep the Old manual & the DVD I send tham Back & they will send it back to where ever thay do. Has any1 else had this problem ? Thanks in Advance |

I have not heard of a problem like this, but since your copy is perfectly legal and really have nothing to with cracks, I think you should go ask around in the official Steam forum. Chances are someone there have experienced the same thing.
The store you bought the game in, I think they seem to handle the issue right about correct. One thing thou - as far as I know you cannot use any disc with any serial, so you will probably need to uninstall the remnants of the old game and then exchange the whole package and activate your new key. Your old copy will have to be returned to Steam in one way or another to free up the old key. That will not be your problem thou.

Certainly it is a weird situation, my Lost Planet worked ok, except for the annoying instant 180° turns which hasnt been fixed.
But in future you could always download steam directly, then install the game. |

@Muyfa666
Thanks for replying & your help, you bring some good points. I am a member at Steam & I will ask them to & see what will happen, I will also ask them about the disk & serial I used & see if they can give any ideas of best thing to do. @DABhand Thankyou for reply to. Tho I just got them & it works Perfectly for me so far, I have not come accross that problem yet. But in future you could always download steam directly, then install the game. Good point but it still leaves me with a DVD disc that cost me $89 Australian that doesn't work unless I use my other CD of Half-Life 2 & install Steam that way. Just think & imagine if I was guy who just bought this game & had no other Steam Games I wouldn't of been able to install it, so I was luckly. DABhand could tell me how big the Steam folder is on the DVD you have as I might be able to see if files are missing or not. My DVD has the following: Opening & Selecting all files & Folders my size is Size: 7.16 GB (7,688,388,996 bytes) Size on disc: 7.16 GB (7,688,476,672 bytes) 93 files & 10 folders Right Mouse Clicking on the Steam Folder only my Size is: Size: 10.3 MB (10,863,882 bytes) Size on disc: 10.3 MB (10,881,024 bytes) 14 files 7 folders Located here DVD Drive:\steam\English I have only 2 files which are called Steam.inf & SteamInstall.msi Steam.ini Size = 251 bytes (251 bytes) & Size on disc 2.00 KB (2,048 bytes) SteamInstall.msi Size = 1.47 MB (1,549,312 bytes) & Size on disc 1.47 MB (1,550,336 bytes) The Steam Installer Related files on my Half-Life 2 CD is just over 6MB so I think I might have missing Steam files on my Lost Planet DVD Thanks in Advance if you could compare for me. |

its 10.4mb on mine.
which is roughly the same as yours, depending on your OS etc. If your worried you could download the steam installer from valve, and copy the contents of the DVD to a temp folder and replace the DVD steam files with the ones you downloaded (or the ones on the HL2 DVD). And burn the disc, that way it should install without a problem. But remember, if you have this game under 2 weeks, I think the law applies in Oz that you can return the game to place of purchase and request new media. Look into that cause if they refuse you without a good reason they are breaking the law then. Last edited by DABhand; 19-10-2007 at 09:50. |

Thankyou DABhand for letting me no
By the way I am running it on WinXP so if the size is that different then I believe I have good reason for a replacement DVD. Otherwise I am truly at a loss and I got it from ebgames & they are usally pretty good in there & I jumped onto it early. At the steam forum they all just say that Download it from Steam etc... But the whole point is the DVD is no good wether or not you will ever need it again & @$89 its not cheap just get a DVD that does not work. 1 guy said forget about it as now you have it installed chuck the DVD away you will never use it. I didn't have to think about it & I said if I wanted to Download it I would of & I may have fast Internet But I am only limited to 1 gig a month, so it would take about 7 months to get it. Anyway thanks again |

Yea I no it sux, for me its either Sattlelite 2mbps which works at 266kbs a download or Dialup @56kbps which is 4kb.
Thats Australian in the Bush at 65kms from Major Town. Even sux more because Internet gaming is out of the question apparently sattlelite is not suited Telstra is no help. |
