Hi, I was just wondering if there's any plan to upload all the patches and trainers to the internet archive for safety and preservation. It would be a shame if GCW would go offline one day and all those patches would be just gone. I would like to upload them myself if someone from the website's team would be willing to send me the whole library of patches, in case the archival isn't in the team's plans.
Thank you for your attention. Last edited by Joe Forster/STA; 15-08-2024 at 01:10. |

The legality of stuff on GCW depends on the country where the maintainer lives and/or the servers are located. (Fortunately, laws are not global yet.) I'm not sure if the Internet Archive (in the USA) would be able to host this content.
(You can't gather the files with a web crawler. There are barriers on GCW against automated downloads.)

The idea is good as there is a point that I will (have to) stop hosting GCW
For now this is not an issue but you'll never know... If something happens to me, then I am not sure that it will continue As for uploading it somewhere, I do not have a clue how/where to upload it to be able to share it as it the archive contains a lot of files from the past 25 years (~400GB)! Maybe a torrent or usenet is an option to consider. As for crawling it yourself, it is possible as the "protections" in place are quite old and with current technology it should be possible, they were there just to avoid hot-linking during the "golden age" of GCW, as with 25+TB traffic p/month and so many visitors (350K p/day) this would have been a problem. Nowadays this ain't a problem anymore and it remains a hobby-project ![]() |
