Battlefield 1942 what program to use?
I have the orginal cd for Battlefield 1942, bud the cd might get damage with time, so i want to make a copy of it.
What is the best program to use? I have tried Alcahol120% version 1.3.5 (build 1112), Blindread 3.0.0.23, and Clonecd 4.0.1.10. Nothing works, my burner is"LG CED-8120B". After using safediscAnalyser v3.4, the analyser tells me that i need Safedisc 2 v2.80. I have found all kind of versions for safedisc 2 bud not v2.80. Can someone please tell me where to find that version...?? cant find it anywhere. Has anyone made a copy of battlefield 1942 that WORKS? What program was used? Thanks. |

I made a working copy of mine with CloneCD, but here's the catch!
BF1942 does a media check too, besides all the other normal checks! It knows if you have it on CDR media (not factory) even if it is a perfect 1:1 copy. So it won't work unless you use the Hide CDR Media feature in CloneCD when you play, or mount the image in a new version of Daemon Tools. I used to use Fantom CD but after the 1.2 patch that quit working too and I had to switch to Daemon tools. EA has gone totally nuts on copy protection with this one.....just nuts! I use a TDK VeloCD Writer 40x12x48 Last edited by Elvin Presler; 29-12-2002 at 11:11. |

There is no media check, SD2.80.010 just checks some data in pregap - CloneCD did not support backup of data in pregap (it should work with latest 4.2.0.2 as some ppl claim, but I did not test it myself), CloneCD copy will work in drives unable to read pregap - Alcohol120% is able to copy SD2.80.010, but as BF1942 is SD2.60.052 in release, and just updates to SD2.80.010 it should be possible to copy it with CloneCD (I do not know if the CD already contains data in pregap to be checked after update, my backup works fine after update).

I can confirm that a clonecd image of bf1942 with CloneCD 4.0.1.6 works perfectly in Daemon Tools 3.23. As Copy Trooper said, bf1942 began life as 2.60x so there was no pre gap data to check. Now I also know why some people were having problems with Clonecd and SD 2.80x. You can also bet your ass that one of the next versions of SD2 will incorporate the media description trickery that Securom New 4.8X uses.

Alcohol Works!
I made a back-up using 1.3.5 and it has worked on atleast 7 different test machines. version 1.3.6 will also back-up the new SecuRom 4.x games like NOLF2...

Okay. I thought there was a media check, because the backup failed unless I used the hide cdr media feature or my DVD drive or Fantom CD virtual drive. That was with version 1.1. With BF1942 1.2, the DVD drive and Fantom CD fails and I haven't tested the hide cdr media feature because I just run it from a virtual drive now to avoid the CD constant spinning up.
Anyway, I've had good luck with Daemon Tools and now the 4.2.0.2 version of CloneCD and it's built in virtual drive eliminates the need for Daemon Tools or Fantom CD. Good job CloneCD and thanks for the heads up about the updated version Trooper. |
