DVD Player not playing copied media
Hi there, hoping someone can help.
I have a Philips DVD860 DVD player that will not play any copied media (audio CDs or DVDs). It's not limited to a particular media brand so how does the player recognise that it's copied media and how can I solve this? I know you can change firmware for burners, would this be the problem and can you upgrade firmware on a consumer DVD player? Cheers, Matt |

What kind of DVDs are you using? DVD+R or DVD-R?
Maybe your player can't cope with +media? Is it up to a DVD-RW/DVD+RW? |

I have a few Stand Alone DVD players and one of those is an expensive Philips DVD player! (It was expensive when I purchased it). It is a DV-535 and is an earlier model than yours but it is one of the most fussiest players I have! It hardly plays anything except the original DVD's. I also have a rather cheap (non expensive) Sensonic player which will play anything!! I used to buy the so called top of the range players but now I will just buy the cheaper ones and if it breaks down I will buy another cheap one! They seem to be able to play everything, even avi's!

I have made the experience that expensive dvd-players don't recognize burned media.
Only the cheap dvd-players recognize burned media, because in this players are normal computer cd/dvd-rom drives build in.

Thanks for the help cats. I've also had the same experience with the cheaper players (I have a samsung that plays everything) I didn't know about the cheaper players having computer players in them, that explains a lot.
Fyi, Philips said "The DVD860 was designed and manufactured before CD-R's or CD-RW discs where common place The system will certainly not playback CD-RW discs, however, it may play back a CD-R though it is not designed to. Please make sure you are using a high quality brand of CD-R (eg, verbatim, tdk), and that you are recording at a slow speed (ie. 1-4x). You will also need to ensure the discs are finalised. Unfortunately, there is no firmware update for this model". |
