Smile Coasters made trying to backup Grand prix 3? Need help...

Hello all cookers,

I have made only two coasters in 10 years until this week, when I've made 3 already.... Heres the deal.
My cdrw reads and writes to clonecd specs fine, however, I must not be setting something right using clonecd4. Secondly, These are not total coasters as two of them load, but won't install the game correctly, which i believe is caused by the extra layer protection used by GP3. I tried nero 5 which made the best copy however, there are several errors on the cd, is this normal for the copying of this particular cd game, it uses securedisc alt which I believe is the first version. Any posssible option setup to try to get this turkey to copy would be appreciated as I just want a working copy before the disc gets scratched to badly to play.
P.S. I tried unsecuredisc, and it made a file and all however, I could use some info on how to use this program to unwrap the security if thats the only way to make a back up.
My preference is Nero as I have a registered copy of 5.5.10, and I don't mind buying clonecd if I can get it to make the 1:1 copy.
Sincerely,
Dave S.

Hey Plod, What settings did you use for clonecd....
I must be setting something wrong, I tried this on two different computers, but when your tired after working late, I might have screwed up the right settings on the wrong machine, etc.

Secondly, though I do believe you, You actually tested your disk by installing gp3 from the backup you made, right?

Ghost, thank you for the info again, I checked it out once, but this time I will go over it a few more times as I saved the pdf file to help guide me through when I get ready to cook this.....

Thanks,
Dave S.

Ghost, forgot to ask you one more thing, I downloaded the unsecuredisc deal and it gripped that a certain .dll file was here or there, so I moved it to the directory where the .exe file was, ran the program and boom, it created an exe file called test.exe.

Now to burn this, what do I need to do?
1) Do I copy the .dll file back to the directory it came from originally after the test.exe file is created?
2) Do I rename the test.exe file to gp3.exe to replace the old file?

I am going for the 1:1 burn first, but I would like to know where the files go with the unwrapper to save time experimenting.

Thanks in advance,
Dave S.

Yes keep the dll where it originally was
Rename test.exe to gp3.exe

And one more thing? Is it Unsafedisk you were using or unsecurom, cos I would imagine GP3 wouldn't be an early version of Securom.

Red face

Thanks Ghost man, It just goes to show you shouldn't get on here when your too tired to type or think. Your absolutely right, I meant unsafedisc, no securerom, sorry but I was rather tired when I typed it.

Well, I tried and tried the 1:1 copy, and i'm getting shut out with it.
Secondly, I tried the unsafedisc and when I tried to burn, I got an error. I am now trying a second disk as it could be that the first one was defective.
Ghostman, tell me if I am mistaken....
1) I copy the files from the cd to the hard drive,
2) I copy the .dll file to same directory as the .icd file resides, run the unwrapper,
3) copy back the .dll file to the root directory
4) rename the test.exe to gp3.exe
and then burn using clonecd, nero, or whatever.....

Thanks for your patience, this is annoying the tar out of me...

Ok ghost man,
I ran the unwrapper, and I finally got frustrated and downloaded the patch. I noticed that the patch file was about the same size as the original gp3.exe....Now when I ran the patch, I get an error that the dplayerx.dll file is missing... That file is in the root directory, so I copied that file to the grand prix subdir where the gp3.exe and gp3.icd reside and then run the unwrapper, and I got a test.exe that is about the size of the .icd file, not the gp3.exe file....

So evidently I am doing something wrong or the program is amiss. The patch file stated that they did the same thing and got the test file which was renamed gp3.exe and it is about 300kb.
The file that I managed to create is 8 MB or so, about the same size as the .icd which means that most likely it is the .icd file.

Can you straighten me out as to what exactly I am supposed to do to create the correct file!
Thanks in advance
Dave S.
