I said doom because it was probably the most popular "revolutionary" game ever. RE started the popularity of the survival games. So that would be my second choice. I didn't know outrun was for the PC, but it was the first online console game to have more than "death matches" in fps, and added a little more strategy to multiplayer.

Zelda...pc?

But the problem most of em have loads of influence in their own genre, like, command and conquer was the RTS killer!, and doom the innovating fps, so u cant really choose

That List Sucks!!!!

Only two games deserve to be there, Outrun and Elite
Off the top of my head, the most influential games have been:

Super Mario Bros. (every platformer since this game has used it as a template)
Super Mario Kart (invented a new genre, with ease. that was ****ing rare in the mid 90s, and even more so now)
Yie Ar Kung Fu
IK+
Gran Turismo
Virtua Fighter (reinvented and rejuvenated the 1 on 1 beat em up genre)
Sensible World of Soccer (actually any Sensible Software should go on this list, like Cannon Fodder)
FIFA International Soccer (started the licensing craze)
Green Beret
Double Dragon
WipeOUT (in my opinion, this is the game that killed the Sega Saturn in Europe. Deserves to be on the list because of that)
The Great Escape (this used stealth while Hideo Kojima was still jacking off to tentacle porn in his parents basement. They do have basements over there in Japan, right?)
Championship Manager (stats, stats and more stats. Theres a football game in there too, but I have yet to find it)
Half-Life (had to make the list, **** DOOM. I never played DOOM during its original run. Run and Gun games are so ****ing lame. Got this game when I first got a PC back in 2000. Was ****ing blown away by the graphics. Then I relised I was playing in Software Mode Anyways, every single FPS, including Deus EX, have at least 'borrowed' a few of Valve Software's ideas.)

Most games of today, owe their exsistence to the above titles

In terms of being a real killer app, in my opinion, only Gran Turismo qualifies for that title. Basically told every other race 'em up to go **** themselves when it first came about on the PS1. Now every other racing game tries its damn hardest to copy it. Instead of Polyphony/SONY having to pay manufacturers to put their cars in there, its rumoured that some of them actually now pay SONY to stick their cars in there. Thats how big that game is. Genuine mainstream appeal too. Unlike 99% of the crap out there. How XboX fanboys put MSR/PGR over it I dont know. Get a clue. Special mentions for Yie Ar Kung Fu, IK+ and Way of the Exploding Fist. Streetfighter II stole all their ideas

Could throw a few more titles on there, but **** that ****. Also, notice no RPG or RTS or other beardfest genres make the list? I have a life. I enjoy it.

DOOM started the FPS movement? I thought Wolfenstein is classed as the granddaddy of all FPS's? Thats the one that got the ball rolling. Although it still wasnt the first FPS. Cant rememeber the name of that.

For me, the list of significant computer games would be

DOOM - the grand daddy of fps (along with Wolfenstien 3D)
Command & Conquer - started the RTS craze
Super Mario Bros - Say hello to one of the greatest adventure type games of all time
Gran Turismo - re-define the driving game scene and now everybody wants to beat them
Championship Manager - spent countless hours looking at stats and more stats
Madden NFL Football - this is the start of the greatest gaming franchise

others are
IK+
Double Dragon
FIFA Series

BW, yeah but Wofl3d never really made it big besides it was freeware if i dont remember wrong, the fact later on you could buy extra episodes is a different matter, in any case it was doom that really started the whole walk shoot find card open door thing.

Luciel, i'll give you that. I never played DOOM during its original run on the PC so I cant really comment on how significant it really was I played it on the various consoles that the game got ported too. I personally thought it was all hype.

I still think that list at the top sucks. I mean why is Resident Evil there? Resident Evil blatently ripped off the Alone in the Dark games.

I completely forgot about alone in the dark, of course, I haven't played it much.

I really liked phantasmagoria, but it has been years since I played it, probably when it came out. Was really easy though, could almost beat the game in a day. It had actors instead of sprites for characters, so that was something that was popluar back when.

Some might say the top-10 games you or others may list, blatantly ripped off earlier similar games, as ideas tend to be copied.

an as for asking why is 'resident evil' there - the fact it generated 2 big movies when similar games didnt, clearly demonstrates its significance.

ps- i do agree with you about 'elite' - tho oddly no ones voted for it!

Wolfenstein was definately the granddaddy of FPS no doubt about it. Doom came sometime after. As for Doom 3, pah! What is the fuss all about. Absolutely nothing new, If I want only wish to see spectacular graphics, I'll watch a dvd.

Best FPS of all time has got to go to Devastation in my book, the godfather of FPS, though the likes of Pain killer, farcray and Serious Sam, (I know it didn't offer much more than see it shoot it, but what a game) follow closely.

Comanche gold, Delta force, Half life, Vice city, Mafia, saga rally, tetris, Lemmings and Unreal, Sim city and of course The sims.
