DVDr problems

I've got a neo2.5 dvd chip and AR2 v2 can't get the dvd back ups to load. someone said i need the 1.7 or 1.9 verson for it to work ? also i heard that the region x boots backups ?. can anyone tell me what i need to get these dvd backups to work & if its the region x is there a particula verson i need ?

What version PS2 do you have??
