Installed spider chip 1.1, terrible fit and non-working - help please !:(
Hi there everyone,
I've recently purchased one of those ultra shoddy spider 1.1 chips. I did the test to see which version xbox i own going by the graphics chip idea i had the focus chip (ver. 1.4-1.5) so i clipped all the wires off the spider chip apart from the D wire and then attempted to screw the chip onto the motherboard. Due to the terrible build of the chip once screwed in the chip is completley out of range of the lpc section so i had to blue-tak the chip to the board and solder a power cable to the chip ( no worries tho that part works fine ), i then inserted the D wire to the D0 hole then tested it out, the xbox booted up as normal. i then thaught that this shoddy excuse for non-solder job was the problem so i soldered a cable to the d0 point on the back of the mother board and then onto the chip, the same thing happenes yet again (xbox boots up as normal, no spider chip interface). My only thoughts were that the xbox version identifier method was incorrect and that i have a version 1.6 xbox . any comments/suggestions would be very much appreciated, thanks alot |

Soldering points are complete different between 1.0-1.5 and 1.6's. If you did a 1.4 install on a 1.6, then it probably won't work.
Use this verion guide: http://xbox-scene.com/versions.php If it doesn't boot, then it could be the d0 or ground Usually if those are correct, any of the other wires not connected properly would result in frag. I dislike solderless chips. btw, make ure you ONLY install 1.6 bios if the xbox is 1.6

IS the chip preflashed where you bought it from? Usually says in the description.
The only thing I can say is to take the chip out and redo all the points and try again. maybe use some hot glue to keep them in place (but not a lot so it is not completely insulated). If the on/off switch is set to on, then there really isn't much we can help with. Unless you have a pic so we can see the points you are using.

There was an announcment about the chips not being able to work correctly on 1.6 xbox's. Mainly, it wouldn't boot correctly due to a wrong screw size or something of that sort. Their site has details.
Maybe this could be a problem with other xbox versions? I dunno.
