GTA 4 Activation not possible...

Hi there,

I just found out that, for me, activation in GTA 4 is not possible....

OK, to tell you the story: I bought the game (yes, really...) and because I only had internet on my laptop and not on my normal PC where the game is, i had to use the offline activation function.

I followed the steps, entered all three codes for activation and the program told me, my game is activated....

....so far so good, but when i launch the game, it still tries to verify its release date (?) which is not possible because there is no internet connection on that pc.

Now I thought OK, lets try the manual activation again...I clicked it and...nothing happens....thats my problem right now, I cannot launch the offlineactivation.exe anymore, even after reinstalling the game, which still says it needs to be activated.

Of course there was no response so far by the support team. Now I have to wait for and rely on ways to bypass the registration to LEGALLY play a game I paid money for. -.-

Any Ideas?

Not trying to mini-mod here, but I know you cant get help here to bypass activation. The only thing you can do is go through the official support channels for this.

Also you are only allowed 1 copy per machine, although that is impossible to check on. But it does warn you on the outside of the box at the back

Yes, contact the publisher (or the shop where you bought the game) for help with making offline/manual activation work. If desperate, you could try connecting your laptop and your desktop PC via a switch/router/cross cable and sharing the Internet connection of the laptop with the desktop PC.

Exactly how hard is it to carry your laptop to the PC, remove the RJ45 cable from PC and into laptop.

These are the smartasses I have waited for....exactly as hard as it is to remove the build-in WLAN reciever from the laptop and somehow install it on the normal PC....my internet is wireless because I still wait for DSL to arrive....

Then buy a WLAN PCI card or USB WLAN. And yes I misread what you said above and thought you wanted to activate on the laptop.

But attacking people like you did especially me doesnt upgrade your coolness rating.

And for your information.

You goto webpage that deals with offline activations, get an unlock code on the site by typing in the unlock key and your cd-key into the boxes provided, once done and you get the unlock code you put it in the offline activation program and activate. You dont have to have the PC online to do so. But did you download the other offline activation on the page you got your unlock code from?

As you need it. And its only available to download I believe when you enter a working cd-key and unlock key.

But here is a smartass suggestion for you, how about ask Rockstar why and how you can.

or, alternatively check the gta iv forums / unlock / offline activation site, the game is 'past' release control, i think the gtaiv.exe that it downloads is available on the site..

so all you'd have to do is get that exe, replace the existing one with that, you've already registered so you don't need to go through that... should be all fine then...
