Just curios:

why the heck need the windows ded. server be cracked?

I run the linux server with the magic entry in /etc/hosts and so everybody can connect.

You mean that by putting the entry in your hosts file, you're able to run the dedicated server just as well as if you had the cracked version?

I realise you're using the linux version, but now I'm anxious to get home and see if that works just as well for the Windows one as well.

If that's the case, then the DEViANCE nwmain.exe would be all I'd need.

A link was posted to the Deviance crack earlier in this thread... From what I understand, you can use the hosts workaround to play multiplayer games, but you can't run the dedicated server until someone cracks it...

That's what I thought as well, but what schlaufer said made me wonder if there was another way around it...

Guess I'm just being hopeful for an alternative solution, since Fairlight seems to have given up on NWN.

Hi there,

I posted the /etc/hosts workaround in an earlier thread as well. But it the whole thread was deleted - for good reasons, is against the rules: http://www.fileforums.com/showthread...threadid=27215

So there are three things left to say:

1.) Fairlight's fix does the same thing as the hack from me.
2.) This is a workaround for a forgotten serial.
3.) Buy the game - it gives the needed serial. No need for hacks. No hassles.

Well for anyone that wants to know, having that magic line in the hosts file of the system running the dedicated server seems to work just as well as the Fairlight nwserver.exe crack.

Now I feel silly for having waited all these days for them to release... oh well
