Um, sounds like wen they modded your PS2 they needed to recalibrate the laser and turned it up too much and now it is fried.

Could also be that ps2 has recieved a knock in transit. Small bump is enough to damage the dvd laser element.

Couple of questions:

What version of PS2 do you have?

Does it stil run cd/cdr based games?

PS2 DVD Backup

H, ps2 is version 5, asked mate who chipped it, he said that the laser wasn't re-calibrated in n e way, ps2 just taken apart, modified and put back, if there was a problem with the modifying, would the ps2 not boot up n e games at all, or is there a certain part of the chipping that could affect different cd/dvd media ?? Yes, cdr backups - Robot Wars and Crazy Taxi.

Many Thanx

Yeah. Sounds right. The version 5 shouldn't need any laser adjustment.

Okay, try these and tell me what does and doesn't boot:

PS1 original
PS1 back-up
PS2 CD Original
PS2 DVD Original
PS2 CDR Back-up
PS2 DVDR Back-up
DVD Video Original
DVDR video back-up.
