the first time i ripped it to the HD, it wouldn't play.....i had ripped it with PX HDD Loader, or whatever it's called......i deleted that one and ripped it again with DVD2Xbox, but it still didn't work.......i turned the modchip off and played the original disc just to make sure the disc wasn't bad.....i left the files on the HD in case a patch came out or something.
i tried playing it a couple nights ago, and it worked just fine.....not sure if playing it from the DVD and getting a game save on the HD had anything to do with it, but i doubt it.

what happens is you have all the default stuff for the disc to boot ie default.xbe and such and when it says dirty disc error when loading a track thats not on the disc you using you load up the other disc and continue on.
God bless auto save after every race

yea, but why even bother playing it from the disc? wouldn't it make much more sense to use DVD2Xbox to rip it to the HD, the FTP it to your PC, and only burn it on a DVD for backup purposes in case your Xbox's HD fails or something? Then you would just simply put the discs in and rip them back onto the HD in the Xbox. Loading is so much quicker when running from the HD anyway. I guess if you were using a modchip and haven't replaced the HD, then you'd want to play it from the disc, but as cheap as HD's have become, it wouldn't make much sense to not put an 80G+ in your Xbox.

You might want to try and check to see if your date and time settings are correct. Also, make sure IRG's are off. Just a couple of suggestions, as i haven't experienced this problem myself or my friend.
I basically used dvd2xbox to rip the game to HD and it worked fine first time, and still does. |

I have copied this game with Dvd2xbox 0.57 to my 80gig drive & so far it works like a treat.

Something else, it seems to me that 5.7G is rather large for a racing game. I mean, the game has awesome detail and stuff, but i'm still not convinced it would be this large.
I looked at all the files and it seems that Microsoft has done 1 of 2 things. They either used absolutely no compression on any of the files like most companies do, or they added "dummy.bin" type of stuff to each and every file before they compressed them. If it is my second theory, it means someone would have to create a tool to uncompress each file 1 at a time, get rid of the excess stuff, and then recompress it to a smaller file. That would be a lot of work though, and like i said, you'd really only need to burn it to disc for back up purposes. It's much better to play from the HD.

now all of the sudden my RalliSport Challenge 2 doesn't want to play from the HD any longer........i'm getting the dirty disc error again
all of the IGR's are turned off....i'm just wondering if Microsoft has included something that checks the internet whenever u launch the game, and if your system is playing from the HD, they put a file in that causes your game not to work? something like if you use CloneCD with a keygen and then go to their site and update it......something happens to your registry that prevents you from being able to use CloneCD any longer.

nevermind....i fixed it.
i had left the Xbox unplugged for over a day because of storms and such in the area.....never turned the Xbox back on with the modchip turned off, so i forgot all about the clock needing set again......after i set the clock, the game played fine.

Looks like a great place to learn some great tips... I have just got hold of a backup of Rallisport 2,on two DVD's..I have had the same problem I kept getting a "Disk Damaged or Dirty Error Message" I have found out that starting with the latest 007 release there is some form of protection on the DVD's..??? I have slayers Auto evox installer installed on my xbox, which includes a Tool called Enigma Video switch(This allows switching between NTSC/PAL Output's).. I found that the first time I played Rallisport2 my xbox was set to PAL(Region),I palyed a few levels and the got the error message..I decided to switch my region to NTSC(using The Enigma tool)I think Region-X does the same thing.. The game now runs great...No error messages.. I am told that this procedure will bypass the protection now applied to releases..Please feel free to correct me if what I have posted is a load of crap ..!! I'm a newbie...starting on that big learning curve... Hope this does help... stOrm383(uk).. Last edited by stOrm383; 08-06-2004 at 08:05. |
