One reason to solder two points together would be to create a grounded twisted pair - something many folks have to do in order to get their substandard Magic chips working.

Does eject not work at all? Will it take the PS2 out of stanby mode? My first suspect would be bridged bios wires. Second would be a blown fuse. For accurate diagrams try here

no eject, it boots to a blank screen. I turn on the ps2, I see the screen flicker, but stays black. Whenever I press the eject button, it flickers a little more, but the tray doesn't open and the PS2 dashboard does not load.

The chiped was removed and the same thing happens. Don't think it is a blown fuse because it still turns on, but does nothing. I'll look some more on google, but I don't see anyone with the same problem yet. Maybe one of the cables were damaged? I have no idea.

Your simptoms are very similar to either a blown fuse or a totally shot laser. Unless you have had trouble playing games and made several adjustments to the laser before it is probably not the laser. A fuse would be my number one guess. You can find fuse lists for all versions here. My second guess is that there are most likely bios pins bridged together. Even the smallest little parts touching cause throw things off into any number of different effects dpending on the ones linked. I have seen all of the above give the effects you are describing.

To check the fuses simply use a continuety meter to check that current can get through near zero ohms.

well, the problem is a fuse. I found a 5 pack for $5, but anyone know where I would be able to get individual fuses? The 1.2a is what i needed. (#30 on the top).

If you PM me your address I can mail you one. These have S2 on them but are the same 1.2A that you need.
