I have the same model of CD burner. I usually use CDR-win or Nero to burn back ups. I would suggest though that you use silver blue disks or gold disks to burn back-ups. Never use silver back disks. I dont really have any problems with my burner.
You would also need patches sometimes. I made a back up copy of toca world touring cars and had exactly the same files as the original when checked in explorer but i still needed the patch so it will work.

I have ricoh model MP7040 and have had very little problems backing up all my playstation games. I run windows 98 and have owned every playstation model made from the 1000 series all the way up to the ps1.the only prob that i have run into was stealthing the ps1 so then my games need a patch using cdrwin and ppfomatic. I would suggest going to the site http://www.playstationmods.com/solutions1.htm as i think you might have laser problems. Also what operating system are you using with your computer.If its windows 95 you just might need a a driver for your burner. anyways best of luck to ya

i found out there's a small screw on the side of the laser (right where the gold ribbon attatches to the side of the plastic on the lense) It siad to turn it 1/8 of a turn....i cranked mine around about 3 times and now all the games i played that skipped play perfect for the most part. Maybe try this out. I use Nero 4.something and CDRWIN 3.8 for patchin purposes with a Ricoh MP7040A and Sony and Verbatim and IBM cds and never make coasters.

I also use Imation 80min cdr's and have no problems I have over 100 psx titles. Make sure your not burning on the fly, this may work some times, but I've had more success burning the image to my hard drive then loading to the cuesheet and burning. Alot less error sector problems,
I use CDRWIN for all my burning....

Hey man... chill out for starters. Stressing isnt going to help. Believe me, i know.
I have chipped and repaired heaps of different model PSX's. Also backed up heaps of games. Everything written here is thus far correct. CD brands do make a difference. Try using a highly reflective CDR. This allows the PSX' deep focus laser to perform its job better. HAve a look at 'audio specific' CD's .. their bottoms are REALLY shiny. And the black bottom ones are really shiny too. If you PSX laser is at fault and you've just about had enough of it all, adjust the small pot on the laser ribbon. This adjusts laser power - but the laser can only put out so much. Only adjust it a little at a time. (1/8th or less is about right) and then retry a known working backup. Best to do this with the lid off (obviously). After heaps of use, the laser will eventually die. If that dosnt work .. you'll see another pot (similar to the one on the ribbon) on the motherboard. Try tweaking that one too. That should be the laser focus. But only try the furtherest pot as a last resort. Its a timing adjuster for the info coming off the CD. If you get that too far out of sync .. you're fubar. If you need more help. Email me. Dont give up.
