1. DON'T BUMP! (Boarder rules)
2. Overheating don't give errors. If U use P4 it will automatic freeze the computer, don't know about the AMD.

3. And this is a crack problem? I bet 50£ that the same will happens when you using your original .exe and your original CD!

Actually, the P4 will throttle down to a lower speed, not lock up. The P3 will lock up deliberately if overheating. In any case Enfurno, have you tried the originals for the games you describe ? I know you say other retail games work fine but we have to be sure the originals of the games you're trying to crack work fine.

I saw a cool movie, when they use thought it was P4.

The run a think it was Quake 3 or something, then they took of the cooler, and saw the game gose slower and slower untill it freeze.

then they tested AMD I think, and the game keep running and the preoceccor keep smoking, until windows give hell of message, and the processor keep smoke badly....

It was about 3-4 years I saw the movie saw I can have wrong or mess it up. But I know AMD do not have that P4 have, and that's overheat protection, YOU can't overburn p4 processors!

krondike, that video was from toms hardware

it is like rince says: the P4 throttles down but does not crash and wont get damaged. AMD processors nearly immediately burn out

Sounds like an overheating problem to me. My PC, did the same thing and come to find out the fan on my videocard, although still turning was slowly dying.

Try this. Open your PC case, and point a large housefan towards the inside, then try playing any of the games that give you problems, if they work ok, then you will know for sure it is an overheating problem.

Just a suggestion

No, they'll crash. And if you keep doing that they might get damaged. The only way to get a burning Athlon is if the heatsink falls of completely. Even if the fan stops working, the heatsink itself will spread enough heat to limit it to crashes. The point is that a P4 will even survive a heatsink that completely falls off, though your motherboard may not be too happy about 400-500 grams of aluminium and copper dropping on its components

i was referring to the THG video. in that video they demonstrated what happens if you completely remove the heatsink. the P4 survived it while the AMD went up in smoke.

I guess i could have phrased that better

Ok, when I have these problems it is one of two things. Video card and game not compatible or VIDEO CARD IS OVERHEATING / BAD MEMORY on card.
