Borderdown
By the way... This is a cool thread. I was finally able to make a standalone selfboot of Border Down (without Ikaruga and without a html menu) using (of all things) the US PlanetWeb 2.6 browser. It's a true selfboot in that there's nothing to click, just wait until the game starts. Doesn't even take long at all, and I replaced the four splash screens with screenshots from the game itself as a nice bonus on the side.
Grab the torrent for Border Down selfboot from suprnova.org or from dcforums.net (uploader is me). Enjoy ![]() A question on the side. I wonder if it's possible to make a browser-based selfboot of Sega Rally 2 (which is a WinCE-CDDA game) such that the CDDA actually plays? Long ago, I ripped the US version of the game and was successful in making both the game data and the CDDA fit on an 80-minute selfboot CD. Of course the game works great but refuses to play its music. Sigh - damned Windows CE. Anyway, I wonder if booting SR2 from the browser might circumvent this issue or if it's a matter of hacking 0WINCEOS.BIN. (And how would one do that, anyway?) so you just modified the first app in the ginsu.ini to the game that should be started?
Like first application = /game/1st_read.bin that way ? |

Correct. Well - not quite. PWBROWSER is still the first/default app specified in GINSU.INI.
I also edited DRMSTRT.HTM and DRMCST.HTM in the PWBROWSER folder - I know that one of these two is called up first, I couldn't be bothered to find out which one so I made both identical Anyway, I put a meta refresh tag in the <head> part of the page to cause it to reload itself after 2 seconds and, as it does so, start Border Down via the x-avefront://whatever thing instead of loading the start page again. Works perfect. ![]() If you want, I can post my GINSU.INI and DRMSTRT.HTM here. |

Hey Da1m0n i have a question.
As i inserted my multigame cd i was first asked to make some internet settings. As i canceled this and the settings were saved i had to reboot and then i was able to select a game. Is it possible to avoid making this settings? I mean is it possible to start games without making these annoying settings :-) Any help is appreciated ! |

Good question - I'm not sure.
I first learned about this when two people who downloaded my Border Down stand-alone selfboot reported they were forced to enter Internet settings every single time they booted the CD. I don't know why they'd have to do it all the time whereas you got away with doing it just once, but it appears to be caused by running the U.S. 2.6 browser on a PAL Dreamcast. Is your DC a PAL model? My Dreamcast doesn't even have any settings, its flash memory is wiped clean. And I never encountered this issue; my copy boots straight to the game... |

Well, glad to at least know why this is happening to people... the browser does not like PAL DCs. Definitely.
I don't know if it actually brings up a different HTML page or runs some internal code for setting up Internet settings first, but in the case of HTML, your idea is a pretty good one. Perhaps you'll be able to find out exactly which page it is that gets called first if the browser makes you enter settings?
