DVD - R's Won't play!

Hello
My mate has a PS2 chipped and so do i.

I have not yet tried a DVD - R back up on my ps2 but he has.

But he says it will not boot even when he uses the normal method of booting or the Holding Reset Boot.

Any ideas why?
Or any ideas how he can get them to boot?

What Mod you're using: One of the first ones out

How you're trying to boot: He has tried the insert AR2 and select without codes method + The hold reset and Change disk method.

What DVDR Media: He doesn't know, but he says it's cheap disks

And the Version of ps2:
Console - SCPH 30003
Browser - 1.20
CD player = 1.20
Playstation Driver = 1.1
DVD player = 1.20E

Sorry about the lack of information but we never chipped them our self.

I'm guessing you've got a neo2.2 Mod. Check the stickies at the top of this forum for boot procedures because dvdr games boot differently to cdr games.
First you need a dvd original game with a large table of contents (I used to use gta3) but as i said check the post by BG (credit to the guy)

Anyway, first thing sounds like you're tryin to boot it wrong, BUT you have a version 4 ps2 which don't like cheap dvdr media. i ALWAYS use either Verbatim, Panasonic or pioneer media and have never had a coaster yet (100+ BACKUPS made for myself and friends.

Anyway, Hope this helps, let me know how u get on.

Nothing stops you doing that mate, but a slight warning that the neo2.2 (Chip i'm presuming you've got > If you hold reset and your drive ejects it is) damages the ps2 laser.
It sends the incorrect voltage although i did have a ver4 myself with the neo2.2 for exactly a year with no problems it did eventually take my drive down.

The same time i modded my ver4 (I was strapped for cash!) i modded a ver4 for my mate with messiah and his machine got hammered in comparison to mine (left on overnight regularly....He's a drunk! LOL!)
And his machine is STILL 100%

Get yours remodded if you like but personally i'd sell it and get a new ver7 with messiah2.

Give charlie some time and he will get back to you.

Sure, by all means ask charlie_ps2 to take out your mod and replace it with a messiah 2. Just hope that the neo2.2 hasn't done much damage!

I'm in no way saying that the ver4 ps2 is pants, just that i know a lot which the neo2.2 have taken down within time and the laser unit's just don't seem to be as good as ver5-7.

Hope this helps,
James

You're gonna be looking at more than that mate, Don't forget the chip is gonna cost you anything in the vacinity of £40 then you're gonna have to pay for installation (Its a very difficult job that only professionals should do) along with p&p.
Wait until charlie gets back to u.
Its gonna cost u a lot but it's gonna be worth it in the long run

Jay_83 is an excellent ambassador! The PS2 new is £170 (but you could get one with a free game and bring/send it to us); I have e-mailed/PM'd you separately with the pre-mod price. Just knock off the £170 and you've got the Messiah 2 + Install price (which I don't like quoting on a technical forum).

Your v3/v4 can be modded but it's a shite job to do and we charge more for the v3 because of the hassle, esp. bringing the laser into DVD-R calibration.
