conan19 is on a distinguished road
breaking the DVD region restrictions

I don't know about anyone else but I have had enough of not being able to play all my DVDs on the players and recorders and computers I have in my house.
If all you ever do is stay in the US and not travel, you won't know what I am talking about.
Take, El Cid, the 1961 epic classic nominated for three Oscars, Ishtar, the 1987 box-office flop with Dustin Hoffman and Orson Welles' Falstaff considered the best of the director's three Shakespearean adaptations.
What do they all havae in common? None has yet been released on DVD in the USA, even though the format turns 10 years old next year.
From my research, of Warner Bros.' 6,650-film vault, only about 1,300 movies have actually been committed to DVD.
Falstaff, I can tell you, is available in Spain and I bought it in Madrid.
Why? It was partly financed by a Spanish company that apparently holds the rights.
But the film won't work on players back here because of regional coding, supposedly launched to combat DVD piracy.
I think it is more to do with the major players in the electronics industry making a fast buck at our expense.
So what do you do.
Well apparently there is nothing to stop you getting the DVDs unlocked.
Not knowing much about technical aspects found I found out through one forum member talk about a DVD Unlocks 4U website which would do all the work for you.
So I a put myself in the hands of Link Removed! and the got me instructions for my Sony and Toshiba DVD players as well as providing advice for my Sony DVD writer. All it seems in exchange for a pint as they call it in England. Can't fault the information and I am now Hallelujah non region restricted.
Why do we have to go to this bother though?
My next quest is to find DVD copies of classics such as the African Queen, The Jazz Singer, Porgy and Bess, the Adventures of Don Juan and Song of the South that is not available in the US.
Hopefully I can find it in Europe.
