How to play FEAR with no cd and no patch(even 1.06)

Ok, this is a little complicated but I'm assuming you guys know how to work a computer.

1. Get FEAR disc 5 and make an image file out of it using you favorite image mounting/writing software.

2. Click Start, right click my computer and click Manage.

3. Look for disk management on the right column. Click it.

4. This should open up the partition manger, next click View>Top>Disk List

5. Look for your REAL cd/dvd drive and right click on it.(CDROM 0 most likely)

6. Click "Change drive letter or paths".

7. In the popup box change the drive letter from whatever it is to X.

8. Now go to your favorite image mounting software and make a virtual drive with the letter D.

9. Mount the FEAR Disk 5 image file to it and voila, no cd in drive, working cd drive, and the best part, FEAR!!1

Praise me!!1

Old news, ive always told people to have the virtual drive first in the chain.

If they ever bothered to read that information, well thats upto them :P

Praise you? Why?

Nahhh unfortunately its been found out ages ago.

Since the protection will look at the first drive in the chain and assume its an IDE one.

Other times you have to use SFNightmare to remove the nodes and the secondary IDE channel.

This has been added to the forum FAQ months ago... guess what... based on DABhand's description.
