SW: Battlefront 2 question...
Hey all, just got Battlefront 2 off a friend, for some reason, he couldn't get it to work, something about his onboard video not working with the game, anyway, he let it go for $30. The problem is that the first disk is scratched really bad. It will install, but takes forever, but when I try to play, it just does nothing. I think that the disk is too bad to play....(Don't know why it would install though...)Is there a way to make a backup of just the first cd without the problems from the scratches carrying over, or will that even work? I don't like using cd emulators because they are just a nuisance (sp??). I just don't know if it is possible to copy cuz on the back of the game case it says in red
[Notice: This game contains technology intended to prevent copying.] Sorry if this has been asked before I searched for a similar topics, but couldn't find anything on it. Last edited by jlg6184; 29-11-2005 at 14:04. |

in theory you are legally allowed to get a back up of that game from anywhere as long as you keep hold of your copy as proof.

I know if I own the game I can make archival copies, I am just curious if a.) copy protection will prevent this. and b.) if the scratches would prevent this...

no my point is,if you can aquire a copy from elsewhere,ie a friend etc..it would still be legal as you own the game.

No-one ever owns the game, they own the license to play the game on one machine at a time. Being allowed to create a backup of your own game does not mean getting a copy of your friends game 'etc'. I certainly hope your are not saying it is ok to download a copy if you already own the game? As this is not true. Each EULA is different, not all allow you to create a backup. ![]() @jlg6184 If the disc is scratched try cleaning it with toothpaste or car polish. There is good thread here about cleaning and repairing scratched discs.

Thanks Grumpy...I will try that, I know I didn't pay full price for it...(Lucky me...LOL), but I didn't know if I could copy the disk or not with the scratches, I will try the tooth paste or car polish....I have another question now, why do they not say "You are only buy a license to play" on the box, it is very misleading to purchase a game, only to find out once you open it that it is not actually yours. I may be missing the point here, but if I pay for the item, that particular copy should by all rights be mine to do with as I please, unless otherwise stated on the box at the time of purchase. Because once you get the game home and go to install it and realize that the EULA has a clause that you don't really own the game, but a license there of, is completely false advertisement. That portion of the contract should be on the box, simple as that. That was gamers have a real option to purchase or not to purchase. Sorry about my rant, I just don't understand EULA's that want you to purchase a new game if for say, your disc breaks, you should have the express right to copy that game, so not to damage the original.
I am done ranting....thanks for the advice on the scratches though |
