black dreamcast read cd-rom / cd-r?

Ok, i have heard both stories (black dreamcasts will only read gd-roms as copy protection, and ITS JUST A RUMOR) ok, so . . .someone here with a black DC please tell me . . .will it work? i got a black dc for xmas . .(sega sports package) and am getting a new burner next wek since my old one fried . .so . . .does it work?
