Clearing up a few things..

Hey all,

I need a bit of help to clear a few things up, as some ppl say some things were as others will say other things, so need to clear the air so i know what I am doing and im not going to ruin my new xbox

Right, I want to chip my xbox and install a bigger HDD but.. I want to be able to play online (with orginal disks e.g. Halo 2), but I was told that even if you disible the chip you can still get banned from XBL as they are now scanning for unlocked HDD's is this true?

If I lock my HDD can I still FTP games to it etc??

The xbox I have just bought is a 1.4 (i believe will re-check) and lucky have a Samsung drive. I was looking at the Duo x2 chip, but is their a better one for my needs or what?

MS have always been banning for an unlocked HDD. That is not the new protection they have.

MS scans your xbox for the HDD information, like model number, etc... If you sign on live and they detect a change, you will be banned (supposedly). This makes it almost impossible to be unbanned.

If you have already been online and want to upgrade your hdd and go online still, you have a chance of being banned. Your best bet is to find another xbox that has never been online, then upgrade that HDD. Switch dvd-drives if you want too. Then sell the old xbox.

I have been going online with my upgraded HDD since the "new protection" was introduced and long before I upgraded HDD's. However, I believe I upgraded before the HDD information scans, so they did not detect a change in my HDD.

oh ok, well the xbox is here now got it for £60 with 4x games and a controller. So your saying, get another xbox that has NOT been online. Switch the HDD's and then go online.

Then sell the first xbox with standard hdd etc. But proberly switch over the DVD drives.

Right I will give this a thought or two, and then give it ago, just a lot of money to be cashing out you see

well, i know people that have sold a broken xbox for parts (each piece seperately) and have made enough to buy another used xbox.

Tyler, yah, that is what I am saying. I can't verify it at all, but it seems to be in the rumors. It sucks, because you cannot just get a new eeprom if you are banned.

You can just get a new EEprom, just nick your mates

Hmm I might just sell my mates as it is then, and get this other one I've seen on eBay, I've contacted the owner and he will ship it to me with another 4x games and a controller for £65. It hasn't been on xbox live nor has it been opened.
