lord of destruction question

K, I read the rules and whatnot, and am still not quite sure if this is an acceptable question, but it couldn't hurt I suppose...
...instead of resurfacing an older thread, I'm going to start my own despite this game's age, b/c this is different than the other ones posted.
Basically, I owned LoD way back when, I lost it a long time ago, and just started playing again...I burned a copy from a friend not using clone cd or whatever it's called, so I could install the game, but not play it. I still have my own CD key, so I was able to install it. Someone gave me the crack so you don't need the CD to play. Now I can start the game, but in the slot where it should list what server you'd like to connect to (uswest, east, etc), it's blank. I can still click on that and access my account, but once that happens, my computer freezes. Does anyone know what file I'd need to play? A friend sent it to me on a different computer, but now he doesn't remember what it was, and the person who owns the computer deleted d2 from thier system. Any help would be appreciated, or if you're not allowed to answer, if you could direct me to a site where they could, that would be great too.
I've already bought diablo 2 twice, and don't want to do the same for this game...

First of all, if you friend gave you the no cd crack then u need a loader and gateway editor to get the gateway. but if u have an original key and a copy of your game Y u need a nocd crack use your cd and connect to battlenet to play. msg me if u need more info bout the loader

My friend gave me the loader...like I said I can actually start the game and access my account without the CD. But it freezes after that point. I don't have the CD, like I said, I lost it a long time ago. I played about a year and 1/2 a go maybe two years, and stopped, and have just started playing again. I just rebought the original diablo, and was hoping I could save 20 bucks and not have to repurchase this game. I don't have the gateway...I'm actually not sure what that is, I'm not familiar with the terminology.

I burned a copy of the game from my friend. But since the CD protection stuff, it doesn't fully burn I guess, so I was able to install the game using that CD, but unable to play it. So that why I asked my friend for the loader. I did have my own CD key, so it was just an issue of getting the game to run. I'm not sure if there's something not on the CD b/c of the CD protection. To reiterate, the slot where it says USwest/east/eroupe/asia, its blank. But I can still click and it will access my account. It brings up the screen with yoru characters, but freezes without showing them.
