Nero 6 DVD

just got a dvd writer, and am having problems writing the dvds,
when i try to backup my dvd movies Nero comes up with a message saying "illegal disk" and that it could not "perform start of disk at once".

I've also tried copy to DVD programme, which doesn't work either

I am using DVD decripter and DVD shrink to prepare the files.

can anyone help?
