Dvd-r Media..>is it only me?

Hi guys,
I've got a v7 ps2 which has always been perfect on dvdr backups (i've been using some datasafe media discs(Blue/white) which I bought months ago and they've always been perfect.

However i ran out of them a month ago so decided to buy some riteks (G03/04) as they seem to be the recommended for ps2.

Anyway since i've been using riteks (White top g03, white top g04 and frosted) i've noticed that loading is a bit longer and games don't seem to play as perfect as my originals.

Anyway i tried the old datasafe and some verbatims and they work perfect. Quiet as hell on the drive with no fuss at all. GTA works perfect as quiet as the original.

The only thing i've noticed is that the purple dye is a lot deeper on the riteks than on the older datasafe and verbatims I have...however my v7 prefers the lighter purple rather than darker.

Hmmmm. Anyone else found this the same? I've always heard darkers better.

99% of people have great success with Ritek but there are some people who don't have as good results. Sounds like you are part of that 1%.

Neo Geo cd can be found here

it's just all too confusing LOL!
I dunno if it's the fact i'm using a a04 to burn them but I had EXACTLY the same problem with my v4 years ago. It loved verbatim but when i gave it traxdata (The rant at the time) it just seemed to have trouble loading etc, ie the same issue now.

I just don't wanna end up backing up my games AGAIN onto riteks if my v7 ever dies. (With the line up of games coming out it just might do! hehe!!)

Do you think it'd be wise and just bite the bullet and burn them onto verbatims? Are verbatims still as good as they used to be?

I have an A04 and burn my Ritek G03 at 2x with 100% success(dvd movies as well) There is nothing wrong with using Verbatim, they works very well for most including myself but can be spendy.

Cheers bighap

(Bought the neogeocd already.just forgot to change my sig but lets see how good you truly are by answering my new one!LOL)

I think i'l just bite the bullet and use verbatims from now on. It's only for my own backups anyway and I can't afford to buy many games on my budget!

I read charlies post regarding media and the laser (Good post m8) but just wonder why i'm the odd one out :S

Hmm, I use an A04, and it burns Riteks (Datasafe/Traxdata/G04) perfectly. I haven't gotten around to backing up the new games I got at the weekend yet (a lot of work and website maintainence to do) onto the new verbatims I also bought. 25 for £25 on Halifax Indoor Market - That's about £2.50 Per Unit cheaper than I find at a computer fair on Verbs! Anyway, I'll let you know how it goes - and how the V4R copes with the lighter dye too.

Sounds good m8!

I always let recordnowmax verify my burn (i'm a sad oldtimer) and it always passes. DVDr movies and xbox backups are also perfect on the g03's i've got. Just the ps2 is acting like a spoilt brat and not taking them.

I'd love to know what dye the old datasafe discs i used were> blue/white on top. They were bang on (And cheap if i remember)

Does anyone have any new verbatims?? (ie bought in the last few months) what colour is the dye compared to the riteks?

Well, I bought mine on Saturday, and the colour is slightly lighter than the Ritek ones I just used up. However, more light seems to reflect from them than on the Riteks. Hope this helps...

Verbs turned up yesterday, lighter dye, and work perfect like all the other backups.

Strangely enough I tried the riteks on a mates v4 (neo2.2....OUCH!) and it had the same problems as my v7 does....but plays the verbs fine.

With the majority of people preferring riteks I guess it's just a case of my set up like bighap/lufc suggested.

Hope this helps someone having the same problems.
