can you play NWN hordes of underdark online?

I just downloaded NWN hordes of underdark and want to play online (direct connection)... is there anyway?

I can stop it from connecting to the authentication server (nwnmaster.bioware.com) via my hosts file, but I still get problems saying "cd key is not authenticated".

is there a solution?

I even went back and installed the original game and the first expansion pack (that has a cracked server exe) and that gave me the same message.

Any ideas?
