Modchip Misshap

Just installed an F14 chip but on....heres the problem. Put the power lead back in and I get the red light on the reset button. Press the reset and the light goes green and the fan kicks in but no picture on the screen and the tray will not eject. Any ideas?

Thanks

Check solder points for bridges on the chips legs etc.. Make sure all points look clean and also, make sure that no solder is on the Eject ribbon cable.

Hope this helps...

thanks

I went over it and didnt see any obvious bridges, but i am planning to go over it again and probably remove the chip to see if the ps2 still works normally.
If I have bridged a connection, does it sound like a situation which happens on another chip install, if so, where do you think i should concentrate my search

If you're going to take it out, use some desoldering braid and get rid of the solder. Next, get two razor blades. When you come to solder a point on a chip, place the leg between the two blades and solder the point. This will prevent bridges. The main thing now though is to see if it still works. Take it out and redo it. It can happen with any mod install, except the crappy no-solder chips. Just try it again and if you still can't do it, send it to a pro to be installed or get a new pre-chipped console.

Hope this helps...

problems like that are usually indicating that points are grtounding out when u put the case back on, or more likely, you got a bridge in your bios legs somewhere

Ill let you know. Im sending it off to a pro company for repairs and chipping. They are gonna charge me the same as a professional install aswell as adding the repair in so its a good deal. Would have sent it to a pro to start with but im quite good at soldering so I wouldnt have been happy if I hadnt given it a go and always wondering if I could have done it myself.... its a big leap from the PS1

Just been phoned by the company who have told me that the PS2 is fixed. Seemed the problem was the chip and not my soldering!! Either dead or bad architecture
Sent it to Playstationrepair.co.uk and should get it back tuesday with a DMS chip and repaired and the price was good so if all is well I can definately recommend them!
Ill leave others to tell me if the F14 chip is any good or if Ive been unlucky, but im gonna join the DMS bandwagon for now
