What version is your PS2? If you have a version 7 then there is no need for the CD.

You have a version 4, 5, or 6. Take the expansion bay cover off and look at the top rim, if it has 2 screws it is a version 4, if it has 3 it is a version 5 or 6. I am not sure what the cutoff point for having an up to date dvd driver. Question, is it that your remote does not work at all, or just some functions don't work? If it doesn't work at all then the update won't help, get a new remote. Otherwise, I would try to contact sony and see if they could send you a copy of the dvd upgrade disc.

Sorry if I didn't make it clear but if your DVD remote does nothing at all the either your remote or the sensor is dead. If just some of the options on the remote like multiple speed fast forward and rewind don't work then you need to update. So if nothing works at all you need a new remote. Every playstation 2 came with some sort of DVD driver so every playstation 2 will be able to play DVD movies without an update, just some functions will not work to their full potential.

Check your current dvd driver, if its 2.10 then u have a version 5 console and as headly said above u shouldn't need to update drivers as the remote is fully compatible with driver 2.10.

If u have driver 1.3 then u have a version 4 and should still get most of the functionality out of it, might get a bit of trouble with the odd function but I seem to remember that the remote worked fine with my version 4 without updating the drivers.

Good luck

No, not for your remote. Flash up your ps2 and then when u get screen offering browser and configuration u have an option at the bottom of the screen called 'version'. By pressing triangle it will bring up a list of versions actually in your PS2. This should tell u what version of DVDDriver is built in to your ps2.

Yep, this means ur ps2 is a version 5. dvd driver 2.10 should work perfectly with a sony dvd remote and therefore u should not need a driver disc. If it ain't working then the battery dead, the remote control or IR sensor ain't working or ps2 has a problem.

Good luck

Is it an official sony remote or a third party one?

I have the disc too but if he has a version 5 and dvd driver 2.10 built in then he really doesn't need the disc. The driver for the remote already built in.
