heres my opinion i have both formats and although there both very good i find the dvd-r to be more compatible with more home dvd players and ps2/xbox. don't get me wrong as dvd+r is also very good and i prefere it to saving data. but i belive dvd-r to be the best

Agreed. Both are fine but dvd-r is supported by many more devices.

Buy the Sony DRU-500A writer, it handles both formats.

But what is the reason of needing the +R/+RW format?

DUDE
personally i bought my hp dvd writer 100i (+rw format) when they were first launched not knowing anything about formats etc. i then decided some months later to buy a -r/rw format dvd burner. hence i have both formats.
